Terms of use
Last updated 28 July 2026
These terms apply to your use of Tax App (taxapp.nz and app.taxapp.nz). By creating an account you agree to them. If anything is unclear, ask us through our contact form.
Early access
Tax App is in early access. It is free during this period and features may change. If paid plans are introduced, existing users will be told well in advance and nothing will be charged without your explicit agreement.
Not tax advice
Tax App calculates figures from the information you enter, using the IRD rates and brackets that apply for the period. It is a record-keeping and calculation tool, not tax, legal or financial advice. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter and for your tax filings - verify anything material with IRD or your accountant.
Your account and data
- Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for activity on your account.
- You can get your data out at any time, and you can delete your account at any time. Lists export to CSV and reports to PDF. You can also download your whole organisation as a single zip archive containing every record as JSON plus every file you have uploaded. The archive is prepared in the background; when it is ready you can download it from Settings, and we email you a link as well. Either works for 90 days, and the link keeps working even if you delete the organisation, so you are never left without a copy. Passwords, API keys and security tokens are never included.
- Only upload documents you have the right to store and share with your organisation's members.
- Reports you run include links to the attachments they list. Those links work for 14 days without a sign-in, so anyone you send the report to can open those documents until the links lapse. Share reports accordingly.
Acceptable use
Do not attempt to break, probe or overload the service, access other users' data, or use Tax App for anything unlawful. We may suspend accounts that do.
Availability and liability
We aim for the service to be reliable, and we back data up daily, but early-access software is provided as is without warranties. To the maximum extent New Zealand law allows, our total liability in connection with the service is limited to the amount you have paid us for it (during free early access: zero). Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 where it applies.
Changes and ending
We may update these terms; material changes will be flagged in the app or by email. You can stop using Tax App and delete your account at any time.
If Tax App ever closes down
Your records are tax records, so it matters that you know now what would happen to them.
- You would be emailed at least 90 days before the service stops, and exports would keep working for that whole period so you can take a complete copy of your records and documents.
- After the service closes, customer data is permanently deleted from live systems, and from backups within 7 days of that.
- Your data is never sold. If the service were ever transferred to another operator, you would be told before it happened, that operator would be bound by these same terms, and you could export and delete your data instead of moving with it.
- Inland Revenue requires business records to be kept for seven years. That obligation is yours, not ours, so the copy you export is the one that meets it. Export before any notice period ends.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
